Dreadful! Should've been called `Written in Bed'.

Worst album that they have released in my opinion. A few gems such as Valley of the Birds and In Heaven She Walks, but the rest of the album is dreadful.

here is a classic track, really atmospheric really good feel to it , daddy's riding the range ,valley of tha burdzz quality , in heaven she walks, imo very underrated album prefer listening to this than the early albums which i have obviously played to death come to think of it i never play them, just live material and suite xv1.
like hugh's live stuff but again don't play the studio albums.

But what is the Benchmark?
I gave it a 3 which is not a bad mark as CDG would have got a 1
Played this the other day and probably my fave MK2 album now. Not sure why this gets such a slating?
Still doesn't compare to NC or Suite XVI though

The major problem with this album that it is very downbeat. To me coming after about time which was an organic live sounding album the band went too technical here. Also this album wasn't finished properly and the original three members took a major backseat JJ Jet and dave are hardly noticable at all. I remember thinking after listening to hugh's guilty album released around the same time "that's how the stranglers should be sounding" . It's okay being diverse but if you take major qualities away from a band (hugh cornwell we could argue forever) but the Bass and keyboards have been a major trademark sound of the band over the years. Also allowing john ellis and paul to write all of the music and lyrics was a step to far for me.

Probably, very true. Maybe thinking.........."Alright Paul and John, show us what you've got?" Could've been major apathy on thier part though?
I think this album is very good. Seriously, I think Valley of the Birds and In Heaven She Walks are two of the best album opening tracks since '10' at least?
Listen to this album and maybe you realise that thankfully PR and JE kept The Stranglers going when others around them were decidedly 'less enthusiatic"
Opinions/Arseholes etc.

True. Very interesting point. One day we might get to hear from the parties involved.

Bit hit and miss this album, only 3 songs of any note, In Heaven She Walks and Valley Of The Birds. But also spawned one of my all-time favourite Strangler tracks - Here. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

C r a s s !

Glad they avoided the use of the Stranglers logo... pity they didn't repeat that anti-branding trick for Coup de Arse!

My least favourite stranglers album, only one not played to death. Can't listen to it now. ITN comes close but it has Time to Die and Southern Mountains which are the boys at their best.

Why isn't there a zero rating for this album ....I'm very averse to giving it one point .

This album had some great songs and was not nearly as bad as the next, Coupe, which on first listen I liked none of the songs and still can't find one I'd put on a personal compilation.
