I will be getting my copies of both the CD and 7" singles tomorrow from HMV to make sure they count towards the chart figures. Let's hope that they get some recognition.

'fraid not top 50 I reckon
Only 2 formats, the message boards don't seem to have managed any coordinated buying this time as we are too busy arguing about Hugh
Not getting any serious airplay apart from Janice Long on R2 bless her!
I'll do my bit but think we will be disappointed come Sunday.
Not that I really give a fuck as I will be very happy when I get my copies tomorrow

Must admit to not having ordered it. Christ, if the band and management can't be arsed to rally the fans then why should I bother ?

BTTF Forum has had a bit of a co-ordinated effort to 'rally the troops' and I will certainly be buying multiple copies (separately of course - to register more 'hits').
I will be happy with another Top 40 entry - delighted if it registers higher.

Having divided my age by two, it will reach number 21.

Not ordered this - if there were some different B-Sides then I might be interested. The band haven't even bothered with a vid have they?

Then the security guy caught you, smashed your digi.camera, kicked you out the shop and got the poor sales boy to re-stack them in the correct space again.

Top 40 I reckon. Can't see it getting higher but it's possibly their best single since ATS.
Hope both my formats are awaiting me at home.

With a bit of airplay - top 40.
I really hope we're not in for a disappointment this time. It just needs a little push from 6 Music and Radio 2.
Hope to see both copies when I get home tonight.

If the amount of copies in HMV,Bradford are anything to go by it won't be charting too highly - 3 cd's and a solitary 7" ! Wasn't even displayed with the other new releases...

Rushed down down before the shops shut to get mine, nothing in H.M.V. but plenty in the independant store and only 99p! (while I was in there I spotted a copy of Feline for £5.99 so I bagged that as well, to go with the other copies I already have!).
It was like being a teenager again rushing to pick up a new single on its day of release. Brilliant! (as is the single)

Got myCD this morning on the way to work. Another Stranglers fan ahead of me with his CD single. He said he'd been told they didn't have the 7 inch in their database...even though I'd been in on Saturday and reserved a copy (which I was informed they already had in the store room). Moral is keep pushing...don't let the lazy gits say "Computer says no!"

Seeing as most of us are old fuckers ( well I am anyway) I thought it would be interesting to get a teenagers point of view, so I played it to my 16 year old daughter who said:" yeah I like it, it sounds like one of those modern bands like Snow Patrol or something, which is a good thing, its like different to their other stuff that you play and I like it, yeah its all right"
Which I believe to be a positive reveiw of the aformentioned single. The trouble is, kids don't bother buying singles anymore, and few of them will know about the Stranglers let alone get excited about buying their latest release. There needs to be more prime time exposure to get anywhere.

To be honest I can't see 'Spectre' or 'Suite XVI' faring any better than the 'Norfolk Coast' stuff sales wise.
The Stranglers are still struggling to get any real juicy gigs, radio play & tv appearances that they need to raise their profile. The media (that counts), by & large, just aren't interested in them it seems.
Let's be realistic also. Their image, their name even, association with punk, playing to & attracting 40 somethings, not to mention not having their original frontman does them no favours in terms of media interest.
I can't really see The Stranglers making an impact on the charts anymore apart from the greatest hits compilations. I still think they'll maintain a healthy underground status & following though. Which is cool. Anyhow fuck the charts! Bet you don't get Damned, Buzzcocks or SLF fans worrying about their band not getting into the top 20

Yeah I think your right with those points ThruBeingCool. I find myself torn between seeing the band get the recognition they deserve and them remaining something of a cult/underground/subversive force that only those of us who understand can really apreciate. If they were like Queen or Elton John they would cease to be as interesting to me I think. Pherhaps less is sometimes more?

I'm sure we/ and the band would all like commercial sucess and millions of sales but at the end of the day if the band release something they are proud of and us the fans like it and it enables then to carry on recording and touring then thats good enough for me.
|
GRIFF
|
who gives awho give a f*** as any fan of any musician will say commercial success is no gauge for talent, and I am sure the band dont really care that much either. There will be more of a push for the lp, and taking into consideration it took nearly 1million + to get gb to number 2, times have changed and single success means diddly squat.
IT WILL GO IN @ NUMBER 1 WITH A BULLET

...If they can find it!
I couldn't find it anywhere in HMV (Newbury). I eventually had to ask, and somebody had to go round the back to get one. Very disappointed!

Spectre of Love SingleI have to say, i went into the HMV in Glasgow to find that the CD's were hidden somewhere in the depths and had to ask the silly looking salesperson at the till. She then took me a long jaunt somewhere to eventually give me the CD Single but when i asked where the 7" was she had to go check the computer to find out where they were, only to tell me that some guy had come in and bought all 8 copies they had, huh!!! How dare someone come in and buy every copy that has been gave to the store, but, i eventually got one anyway so no worries. I totally agree with the publicising of the band a bit more. Come on, shout out to your fans be it young or old. Since Paul joined the band we have taken a younger influence on board, including myself. Here's hoping they do well anyway!!
