What would you rather listen to?A really bad Stranglers album?
or.................
A really good album by absolutely anyone else?

I only ask because I've had an evening in the pleasurable company of Messrs. Burnel,Black,Greenfield,Ellis and Roberts.
(via the phones)(and that could make a difference)
Par exemple............I love Pink Floyd's The Wall,(probably the best conceptual album ever written..... :Nah, I'm joking!!!!!) but.....I'd still rather listen to In the Night, About Time, Written in Red or.......even Coup de Gravy! but, and I think I'm analyzing too much here... is it because familiarity breeds (lack of) contempt?
Feck! It's 2AM.........What shall I listen to?
No. I think I'll show some restraint and listen to..............er............ah.. feck!.....ballax................"Save Arseholes"..........

I'll tell you one thing, and you have to listen really hard sometimes... subtle as they may be......Greenfields keys....
BLISS!

Much as I love the Stranglers, I would rather listen to The Wall than CDG or About Time any day

I'd much rather stick on something like Buzzcocks "Singles Going Steady" than About Time or ITN for example. I mean come on there's some fantastic music out there other than The Stranglers

So far it seems that the vote is approx 50/50..
IMHO even though i love the Stranglers,it would have to be a really good album by someone else....
Something along the lines of BUZZCOCKS - LOVE BITES or THE DAMNED - BLACK ALBUM.......
Even though i will listen to them,i still don't rate COUP DE GRACE,IN THE NIGHT etc

Just about sums it up for me.
In the cold light of day with slightly less alcohol coarsing through my veins....... , I can still listen to the 4 albums of the apocalypse but they undoubtedly sound much, much better with headphones on. I think my analytical brain takes over and I pore over the subtle intricacies of each album, knowing the artistes back catalogue so well.
Without fones.............much of it sounds like elevator music and I'd rather listen to summat else.

Good album by anybody else for me.
I'd always prefer some of the great albums by The Damned, The Manics, Therapy?, Rancid and, as K-Tel used to say, "many many more" to CDG, ITN, WIR.
Does it make me a bad person ?

Unless I'm on holiday and don't bring any Minidiscs with Stranglers stuff on then its gets an airing every week on average I'd say. But as Jim says there's so much other great music out there. I couldn't do a Gizz and have Stranglers relatively non stop only 16 studio albums to go at!
I consider my record collection rather thin, only got about 300 albums which really isn't that many. Should turn on my hifi a hell of a lot more. Maybe I'd be more inspired to do so if my kit wasn't now over 5 years old, keep meaning to venture into the realms of high-end. Preferably Cyrus or Naim.

I haven't listened to any Stranglers albums for well over three years, 'cept Suite 16 which I've listened to once.
So a good album from anyone else makes sense really. Having discected about 95% of Mk1 material it just isn't the same for me anymore. I really miss all those audio riddles. I wish I could listen to them again from the outside like I used too.

So......................18% of you would rather listen to a bad Stranglers album than a good one by someone else???
Call me simple if you like, but that suggests to me that almost 1 in 5 of you listen to nothing but the Stranglers???
That's just not healthy and you should seek professional help immediately

haha I can imagine Gizzard sat in a chair with his ear lobes wedged open ala Clockwork Orange (yeah replace eyes with ears). With the Stranglers on 24/7 rotation and a big demented smile on his face.

As I am currently listening to The Jam
I always play Stranglers in the car as I have shed loads of boots which I've 'got' recently to listen to but as I've stated I do listen to other stuff.

There is a strange pull of a bad Stranglers album....since they are my favorite rock band- I keep wanting to go back and figure out if it wasn't as bad as I thought, it just couldn't be...

I'd rather listen to anything other than Written in Red - a big blot on The Stranglers CV .
........well , I say I'd rather listen to anything , I do of course rule out totally Scissor Sisters ,Kylie , Dexy's , New Radicals .........wouldn't listen to any of that dross if it was the last music on earth , not through choice anyway .
There are many , many good albums out there by bands other than The Stranglers but it just happens that IMO The Stranglers have pretty consistently made the best one's ever , with a few exceptions along the way .
