Computer Help Needed

Hi Folks
I have had some files some files quite literally vanish into thin air from my desktop,Open Office exel type things & photo files.

I have searched high and low on here but all i can find are shortcuts that to them no longer work,I do have backups of these but these are over a week old and sods law i,ve done loads of work on them this week,Yeah i know i should back up more often.

When i do a system restore the desktop icons for these files appear briefly then vanish again.

Anyone any ideas as to whats happened or can suggest a good programme to help restore these ?

I am using Vista o/s.

Hi, this may be a stupid question but have you checked your recycle bin?
Apparantley on vista, files can sometimes fall into this of their own accord.
If that is not it, I am being forwarded a link to a vista restore programme
this is being done by a vista I.T. expert, and is being sent either today or tommorrow.
If you don't have it sorted by then I will forward it to you.
Oscar.

You need to get something like undelete http://www.undelete.com/undelete/home/undelete.asp or a similar recover program. But the thing you really need to do is not use the PC that has the missing files, as if they have been deleted you will wipe over them with new data. Also try this one http://www.recovermyfiles.com/
