Best Stranglers Gig OpenerWaltzin Black aside, which track do you think is the best gig opener? Which do you think would be the best that has'nt been done? For me, I think 5 Minutes is cracking, it introduces the guys one by one, and BANG! we're into it, full throttle. If anything, I'd like to the the intro to 5 Minutes drawn out a bit, just to build the crowd up. Come on then, what about you?

I've forgotten many of the songs which they've used to open now - I can remember 5 Minutes from Raven tour , Toiler - Alexandra Palace , Norfolk Coast - Halesworth . Did they open with Valley of Birds ever ? wouldn't vote for that anyway but just curious .... of the one's I mentioned would say 5 Minutes as it was then my favourite Stranglers song AND the first time I saw them live , so pretty special .

Mk 1 = Shah Shah (cica 90)
But would have loved to see them open with Sometimes. Guess I never will now. Heroes 86 was pretty good though!
Mk 2 = Time To Die.
Mk 3 = Er, that'd be Norfolk Coast then.
Mk 4 = Not a fat lot of choice at the moment, how about 5 Minutes?

Must admit.... I'm a bit bored with Walztinblack as their intro song. How about Yellowcake UF6 - I think they played that before the Raven Tour then after that it went to Waltzinblack. Yellowcake was a classic... a really powerful build-up to the gig.

think a return to longships would make a change.

i quite like waltzinblzinblack as an intro , for the stranglers mk1 , i think the best opener i saw was no more heroes, for the new line up i think norfolk coast is the perfect opener.

I'd have to say the best Stranglers opener I ever witnessed was God Is Good.
Na I'm taking the piss, err the two openers at Two Shades gig in 2002 that kicked off the acoustic and electric sets were brilliant. Walk On By and The Raven respectively.

God is Good was a great opener and I'd like to see it return to the set; Sewer was a good opener (Valley of the Birds is the only opener I can remember not liking that much). If they're going to start with the Raven (again) then they could precede it with Longships instead of Waltz
I think Curfew would make a great opener.
Ideally Frome (& Bilston) should start with something they've not played for a while

UGLY gets the ball rolling straight off, then finish the gig with burning up time, whilst baz chucks sweets out into the crowd like huge used to do.

Its interesting you say you found God Is Good great. I'm not saying it was a shite opener, far from it, I liked CDG when it was released and still like it today. Unlikely we'll ever see any other tunes than In The End back in the set though, it works well acoustically but it was superb on the CDG tour.

Best Album from Mk II (IMO) and yes In The End was superb on that tour. I would welcome the live return of God is Good and/or Coup de Grace (SOS).

5 Minutes is a great opener, but you get a bit bored of it appearing in the same place of the set.
Toiler has always been a personal favourite of mine anyway, I guess any of their previous openers will do.
As long as it gets the crowd going and they change it around on a fairly regular basis!!

For a surprise they could open with Sewer, this would get a great reaction from us all and set the scene for the rest of the gig.
