TWO SUNSPOTS

In my humble opinion, it has to be WALK ON BY..
Even though neither Hugh nor Baz can quite master it live (although both very good),it is absolutely mesmerizing on record..

this is silly! why arent there more choices? i mean...no more heroes is even missing off the list! does LUKEJAKE have to do everything?

Voted for Sewer , though I think 2 not mentioned are up there with the best .... Toiler and Hanging Around .
Time to Die is also worthy ..... probably the only positive recognition JE might get , showed that technically he was /is a very good guitarist .

I picked "other"- Two Sunspots.
To me this odd backwards take on a solo embodied all I loved about the Stranglers inventions when that album came out.

toiler on the sea for starters. But i really love london lady its a complete free for all and when hugh played it live it always sounded different. And lets not forget princess of the streets

Hanging Aroo is superb as is No More Heroes. Some of the options are insrumental?

.......most off-the-wall guitar work IMO has to be all through Hallow to Our Men. I'd defy Hugh to go back and work that tangle out. It is fucking awesome stuff.
Also love all the motifs in Top Secret. He was at his most creative form during the MIB stuff. The Raven work was a taste of things to come. The overlapping guitar riff on Barokie Bordello is top bollocks too!
Didn't vote for any of the choices here but Heroes, Hanging Around, Curfew and Threatened deserve a mention.

Down In The Sewer or Let Me Introduce You To The Family
Guitar solo of second song It's harder to play than Sewer solo
Soo... maybe Family? No no...Sewer! May yet Family?
Ohhh, It's too difficult!

I know its a stupidly obvious choice but I'd go with Golden Brown. Its a fucking great solo.

I agree 100%.
That solo sums up what a Straglers guitar solo should sound like.

You can't call Sometimes a solo its like 3 notes. Right now it's kirk "The ripper" Hammet "The end of the line"
Kirk rules.
No "Something Better Change" in the list
If it is solos you are after look no further than
DIMEBAG DARRELL.

'Bitching' has stuck in my head for years, not so much the melody but the sound. Think HC's Telecaster had an extra homemade pickup bodge that gave it a weird tone.
'Tits' is another 'face melter' but like Eric Morecambe he's playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!
I think my favourite is the double tracked 'Goodbye Toulouse' solo, marvellous!

I had the same sensation with "Bitching" - somehow it epitomizes the Stranglers sound in that early period and Hugh's guitar is especially strong on that track. It was my fave track of NMH at the time.
