Best b side

1978-90
Mad Hatter

Since You Went Away - I love this song. It should have been a double A-sided release, and that way this song may have received some airplay. A hidden gem in my opinion.

Norman Normal for me. Excellent song but would'nt have fitted on Dreamtime so had to settle for being a B-side.

Shut Up.

Have to be the Vlads or Shut up/Old codger/Since you went away oh fuck it all of them Rolling Eyes

Never even read the choices, just checked that Shut Up was there before I voted for it.
What were the other choices? Very Happy

Surely Vietnamerica is the best b-side? (London Lady would be, but doesn't count since it's an album track too.
PjInBlack

i like since she went away the best but i think the extra tracks on dreamtime since she went away, norman normal, hit man, dry day are better than most of the album tracks great songs!

Most definately 'Since Hugh Went Away'

INSTEAD OF THIS : Pure JJ excellence !

Has to be Shut Up.

I suffer with terrible ear wax and to check that everything is groovy in that department and I am hearing well, I run through the bass intro out load.

Try it, it really does work if you suffer from the same affliction.

Apart from that............it's more of a 'punk' song than New Rose!

Achilles Heel my fave B Side....Better than half of Aural Sculpture!!

Must be 'Vietnamerica' for me, although not listed.

I voted Shut Up but Norman is a close second. I remember hanging out in a pool hall and Always the Sun was on the juke box, I usedto play Norman Normal constantly. It's a direction I wished they'd gone with.

Shut Up is a classic though. a mate of mine once complained that he felt ripped off buying Nice and Sleazy and getting a short b side. Buffoon.

Instead of This.
. . . not as inventive or experimental as the UA b-sides, but worthy of a place on the album (was convincec 10 would be fantastic if this was only a b-side !). Loved the quirkiness of all those early b-sides: Old Codger, Yellowcake, Fools Rush Out and Vietnamerica. They made 'Off the Beaten Track' quite a good album when put together.
spaceace

Norman and a very close since you went away.
serya

Norman Normal and Since You Went Away, I thought at the time rare that two such great songs were better than what was on the album, imo.
moosedog

since you went away

fools rush out
