2008 - a winter of discontent in the UK !

Here in the UK, they are saying 2008 is going to be a winter of discontent. With fuel / energy prices rising, unemployment, banking industry problems and below average wage rises which are not in line with inflation. Soon, the train drivers are going on strike not to mention the UK coast guards who get a pitiful salary for the job they do. Also, other public service workers who have been delt a harsh blow by Downing Street. I just can't see how Brown can survive this!

Thatcher went through 4 terms (or something like that) of that. That said at least Thatcher did stuff (be it good or bad) and didn't look scared shitless at every interview / media appearance.

If he's a Stranglers fan he's gonna survive ! With the tour now stretching from October through to February then that's most of the winter covered isn't it ?

No you're right Thatcher did not pussyfoot around, but then neither did Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, ceausecscu or any other mentally deranged power crazed egotistic despots that scatter the pages of 20th century history.

John McCain, he's the bloke who invented oven chips right?

Well I have to say that I fully support Gordon Brown - It would be suicidal for there to be a change of leader now - After all who in their right mind will want to become the PM of a country that has been arsefucked by the City.

Thatcher did do well, but many of the conservative policies were the ones that have damaged our genaration.

Yes, I voted for Mrs T, but it is a thing I bitterly regret - I only voted for her in the 2nd and 3rd elections though.

We must all stand up together for the next few months and move the boat forward.

As far as I'm concered Hague has all the hallmarks of being a respected and charismatic leader of our country. Cameron is too wishy washy, not enough substance, hopefully he'll lead them to victory at the next general election and then pass the baton to Hague.
The Sewer The Sewer

I would vote for the Conservatives again if they had someone with bollocks - Portillo always seemed to be a good bet, but the rest of them are just wishy washy ex Thatcherites.

As a Chelsea fan I can gratefully say I'm glad we didn't get him - It seems like a Shevchenko kind of moment really, but we got away with it this time. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Knowing my luck he will be with us in January as I think he only left for Man City to get out of the contract with Real and he will be selling his soul in the bleak mid winter of Manchester
