• Re: Bristol O2 Academy 8th March 2010
 •
Arrived in Bristol with Blackbeered around 6.40, straight in the car park and down to the meet up boozer the Hatchett, spotted me old mucker Rodders and Laurence in the beer garden having a fag and in we go to a pub pretty full of Black clad fans. Other forum members present are Pige, the Strangler, jbinblack and Kaoos, soon to be joined by NMH1965, Ladp, Ice and the webmeister mantheylovetohate, much talk then ensued about all things Stranglers past, present and future. Whilst in the pub I realised I did’nt have my ticket with me when I was sure I took it out of the car, I ran back up to the car park and there it was still on the roof of the car! Thank feck for that, panic over!!  Into the venue around 7-45ish and straight to the merch desk to check out the new gear, have to say it’s a 100% improvement on the last UK tour(but that couldn’t have been hard), snap up the i phone tour t shirt 8) , hang around chatting for a bit and then into the venue which even by then was pretty packed, managed to get right down the front(didn’t barge anyone on the way) two deep on JJ’s side. Have to say I thought the support band were shit, every song sounded the same to me so wasn’t impressed with them! Just to the left of me were half a dozen or so young girls and I have to admit I didn’t think they last the gig there, I said to the guy by me that I’d give them six songs and they’d be gone but fair play they seemed to really enjoy the gig. Stranglers were on around 9.15 and straight into TTD and then a blistering Go Buddy Go. At the risk of repeating myself I thought this was a fantastic gig and the sound was pretty much perfect and being in front of JJ the sound coming from his Bass was simply stunning although listening to Pige afterwards he thought the sound was poor and that he couldn’t hear JJ’s bass! I think he must have had his Metallica headphones on throughout the gig! Highlights for me was pretty much everyone although there is certainly a lull in proceedings when they do GB, ATS and SLG, having said that these went down very well with the crowd so no real complaints. The best song of the night by a country mile was Genetix, just stood watching JJ during this was a sight to behold, the man is a genius and as far as I am concerned there isn’t a better bass player in the world, and as reported by others he looks in stunning shape for a man of 58, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so animated, probably more so now then back in the days of MKI. :smt004 I should add that Jet never missed a beat and makes drumming look so easy although I’m sure it isn’t. Other big highlights were Lost Control, Spectre, Curfew, Norfolk Coast and of course Sewer. Gig was over far too quickly and we say our goodbyes to matesinblack :smt008 then myself, Rodders, Blackbeered and Ice find a kebab joint for some much needed food and drink.. Back to the car afterwards for the drive home, got in around one knackered but led awake in bed for another hour before finally nodding off. Yet another fine night in the presence of a truly great band and meeting up with some good friends. Next stop for me Oxford next week although I haven’t given up hope of making Brum(just yet).[/quote:10xuds4m] Top notch preview that was 1st class :)

 •

All in all a top night out and once again the actual gig becomes almost secondary to the social occasion. [/quote:t63jt09w] Yup, the meeting up factor is fantastic. It just seems to be getting better and better and adds to the whole blast of the occasion no matter where the band play. Long may this continue ! Like.[/quote:t63jt09w] Secunded. Anyone who's met me pished at a gig has probably had to endure my usual inebriated ramblings about my Stranglers gig rememberings. As you'll know, it goes, "Meet up, get a few pints, mibee a curry, more pints, a good laugh has ensued now for about 4 or 5 hours, more booze, more witty banter, more laughs and then, the realisation, about 8pm, that, "[i:t63jt09w]fuck-[/i:t63jt09w] I've got a Stranglers gig on top of all this !!" Top stuff. Oh, and Paul, if you're also suggesting that we should all keep doing theses sort of get-togethers, even when the big gig isn't on the cards at the end of the night, then I, for one, Secund that also.

 • Agree with the majority on this, but don't forget, no matter how bad this Album was, it gave us another tour / gigs to go to

 • Re: Decades Apart - true confessions
 • Oh, I like Nuclear Device! What is it that you don't like about it? I haven't bought Decades Apart yet; apart from the new songs it will be interesting for me mainly for the MK2 songs, as I hardly know any of those. I hope to be pleasantly surprised (though my expectations of Sugar Bullets are pretty low now). Actually I think I'll go and order it right now. Mariet

 • I think Lance is very good at playing mind games, but he will have is work cut out. I think both Alberto & Andy are top contenders for the 2010 tour. I just don't think Wiggins has got the beans in his legs, but I may be wrong!

 • Leeds on Thursday ?
 • I've lapsed ... I admit it ! ... I used to go to every Brum gig while I lived there and then in the mid 80's when I moved up to North Yorks saw them at Scarborough but then when Hugh left , something died for me , I saw the PR line up once in Middlesbrough and was slightly underwhelmed and I moved on to other stuff .. I realise that this is probably herecy but I'm going to Leeds tomorrow ... and I can't bloody wait !

Jim

He is a big fan - He said there's only 2 bands that matter The Beatles and The Stranglers. Jim[/quote:sfz448ua] Well , he's half right anyway . Can't say I care too much for that Scouse lot .... IMO very over rated . Funny really , both ends of the spectrum .[/quote:sfz448ua]
