• Re: Rockets on the Radio
• Probably coz it's lifted from the album where all the credits are different for the selected tracks ........... don't think there's any conspiracy about it..... I have to admit that I wasnt sure about RR at first..... but I found myself constantly humming the tune in my head [a good sign for any new song].... definately a grower!!!!

• Re: Rocket......gone!
• I have found that my willingness to buy expensive collectables like this is inversely proportional to my ability to afford them. It's somehow not so "special" to pay a £12 for a Japanese album when you haven't had to save up for a couple of weeks to have the money spare.

• Going Live
• the post about Celeb Mr and Mrs has reminded me of my childhood watching Going Live on the BBC. Anyone else of my generation fancy reminiscing about this? Trev and Simon, top bands like the Shamen and 2 Unlimited performing live etc? Failing that does anyone remember Parallel 9, the replacement show that ran for a couple of summers? It seems noone remembers it at all, but I thought it was quite good. I remember China Black getting sent up in a teleport from a caravan anyway.

• Re: John McGeogh
•
Thanks for the above links Great guitarist and good bloke. My best experience with him was while he was with The Armoury Show, they played in a tiny club called The Gallery in Manchester around '85. there was no real stage to speak of and my mates and I are stood directly in front of him with only a monitor between us. We were quite into the band and although the album hadn't yet come out we seen them a few times and got the bootlegs so we were singing away with the songs. John Mc obviously clocks this as were virtually nose to nose with him and had a pretty good laugh with us thoughout,he was chatting between numbers and challenged us to get the words right and scored us accordingly after the songs. He turned the mike round towards us during "Castles in Spain" and left it there for us to sing the chorus, Jobbo was taking the piss out of us too, blaming us for John Mc messing his lyrics up. I miss that band, they were great.[/quote:3w4dpucl] Good to know that somebody else also appreciated this superb band. I was lucky enough to see them a lot of times. It always mystified me how they never became big. I have a couple of superb bootlegs which i enjoying listening / watching quite regularly.

•
If anyone has the inclination to watch 'The Road', save yourself the 1.5 Hours of your life, you know that you'll just not get back, after watching this utter drivel. I was always told that a story should have a beginning, a middle and an end. This has none of those.[/quote:28dxi0gz] We have a book club in the office (I know, I know...) and we read The Road as one of our reporters thought it was the best book she had ever read. Frankly I was bored to tears and could not beleive the rave review on the book jacket. As such the moment they announced a film I thought noooooooo! Glad you confirmed my worst fears...

• Re: What is the one truly iconic anthem?
• I voted for Something better change, mainly because it was the song that made me a fan. I heard it as first ever Stranglers song as it became a minor hit here in Holland in late 1977. However I must say that Sewer I rate very high, it's got all the trademark Stranglers aspects! However the live versions I like more,(the studio version didn't sound as good as the other songs on Rattus) very intense!
